Sarnath, about 10 km from the holy city of Varanasi, is the place where Buddha chose to deliver his first sermon.
There are many Buddhist monuments and edifices in Sarnath. Some of the important Buddhist monuments at Sarnath are the Dhamekha stupa, the Chaukhandi stupa and monasteries and temples of different schools of Buddhism from Japan, China, Thailand, Burma and others. The Indian Buddhist society called Mahabodhi Society maintains a park around the Buddha temple. The Mahabodhi Temple within the park has a tooth relic of the Buddha.
After that go sightseeing for Sarnath Museum, Varanasi
Sarnath Museum is the oldest site museum of Archaeological Survey of India. It houses the findings and excavations at the archaeological site of Sarnath, by the Archaeological Survey of India.
There is a famous Archaeological Museum at the Sarnath built for placing and protecting the historical things very safely as ancient antiques. It is located near to the archaeological ruins across the road. It consists of five galleries and two verandahs. It has various ancient objects from the Buddhist arts, images of Hindu Gods and many other artifacts.
Here you will be able to see the famous original sandstone sculpted Lion Capital of Ashoka preserved at Sarnath Museum, which was originally erected around 250 BCE atop an Ashoka Pillar at Sarnath & has been adopted as the National Emblem of India
It is strictly prohibited to have photography inside museum to keep secret the historical things. It opens at 10.00 am in the morning till 5.00 pm in the evening from Saturday to Thursday (closed on Friday).

Bharat Mata Mandir also called as Mother India temple. The temple was constructed by Babu Shiv Prasad Gupta in pre-Independence India at a time when Mahatma Gandhi was taking charge of national movement for freedom from British colonial rulers. The Gupta family still takes care of the building.
The temple is not a new construction in Varanasi , it has been a religious pilgrim's favourite in northern India. The temple is considered unique for its display of the map of Undivided India on marble.
Construction of Bharat Mata Mandir began in 1918 and completed in 1924. Mahatma Gandhi inaugurated the Bharat Mata Mandir in Varanasi on October 25 in 1936.

Kashi Vishwanath Temple is one of the most famous Hindu temples dedicated to Lord Shiva. The Temple stands on the western bank of the holy river Ganga, and is one of the twelve Jyotirlingas, the holiest of Shiva Temples.
Hindus believe that those who come and die here attain liberation. It is said that Lord Shiva gives the Tarak Mantra to the ones who die here. Some also believe that the Lord resides here and is the giver of liberation and happiness.
The temple can be approached from a lane called Vishwanatha lane. Beside its religious significance, the temple is also an architectural marvel. The magnificent edifice offers a breathtaking view to the onlooker. The Kashi Vishwanath Temple is also popularly known as the ′Golden Temple′ due the gold plating done on its 15.5-meter high spire. One tonne of gold donated by Maharaja Ranjit Singh has been used in the gold plating of the spire.
