Private tour to Tatev Monastery, Khndzoresk - swinging bridge

Enjoy the beauty and discover miracles of Armenia! One of the masterpieces of medieval Armenian architecture is the Tatev monastery. It is located on a hill which is surrounded on three sides by deep chasms, and it can only be reached from the north. You are welcome to explore the cave system, but a trip across the gorge is not for the faint of heart. However, making the trip a bit easier if no less harrowing, is a 160-meter long suspension bridge that was built using nothing more than local funds and labor in 2012. The new bridge connects Old Khndzoresk and New Khndzoresk, the modern village, bridging Armenia’s history with the present day both figuratively and literally.

Stop At: Tatev Monastery, Highway 45, Tatev 3218 Armenia

Goris is considered to be the most visited destination for the tourists because one of the wonders of Armenia is here. The one and only Tatev Monastery Complex, The Devil’s Bridge and The Tatev Ropeway are situated here. It is not a secret that Tatev is a fascinating place that attracts everyone. There you can see an ancient oil mill with stone grinders, mighty fortress walls upon massive cliffs, the swinging pillar which has a unique medieval structure: the last saint of the Armenian Church; ancient frescoes by European master and of course, the tomb of Grigor Tatevatsi.
There you will be the witness of Syunik's extraordinary nature and will discover the historic treasures of Goris. The Tatev Monastery was the cultural center of Armenia. Nowadays this is a must place for tourists and it is not possible to come here and not to want to see it again. In fact, in 1995 the Tatev Monastery complex was included in the list of UNESCO’s World Heritage Sites.
Tatev monastery’s history dates back to 9th century. Undoubtedly, this monastery is one of the oldest and the most famous complexes in Armenian history. It was built in 895. The complex has three churches; the Poghos Petros Cathedral, St Astvatsatsin and St Grigor Churches, the Grigor Tatevatsi mausoleum, “Gavazan” monument and other historical buildings.
The next popular place among tourist is the Tatev Ropeway; it is the longest ropeway in the world (5, 7 km). The Tatev Gateway invites you to fly above the gorge on the Wings of Tatev. There is an audio guide which will tell you the Tatev Monastery’s history. From the cableway, you will be the witness of the most picturesque and impressive Nature of Armenia. The Wings of Tatev is a 5.7 km (3.5 mi) cableway between Halidzor and the Tatev Monastery in Armenia. It is the longest aerial tramway; the construction was finished on 16 October 2010.
Wings of Tatev is the shortest, most picturesque and impressive route to Tatev Monastery. The cable car travels at a speed of 37 km (23 mi) per hour and a one-way journey takes 12 minutes of unforgettable flight above the ravine of the fierce Vorotan River. At its highest point over the gorge, the car travels 320 m (1,050 ft) above ground level. The Wings of Tatev is the longest reversible cableway in the world (5752 m), which was recorded in the Guinness Book of Records.
During the flight, the audio guide presents the history and all the important things about the wings of Tatev. The audio-guide tells the information in three languages Armenian, Russian and English. During your whole tour, you have the opportunity to choose five languages English, Armenian German, Russian and French and audio guide. You can find the devices in the Ropeway ticket box. The movable device is linked to the map which gives an opportunity to orientate in the area.

Stop At: Khndzoresk Swinging Bridge, M12, Yerevan 0032 Armenia

Khndzoresk village (located in the South-East of Armenia, marz Syunik) is not an exception. About a month ago thanks to the efforts of Khndzoresk residents a swinging bridge was opened. The 160-meter long bridge weight 14 tons and connects the two banks of the village, the so-called old and new Khndzoresk. The amazing thing about the bridge is that it was constructed by the residents of the village, with their own hands and no machinery was used for the construction, and even for the transportation of materials (they used horses). Everyone would agree that this is a very brave and patriotic act. The aim was perhaps to preserve the natural and historical heritage of their hometown, as the new bridge can help you see, feel, hear, learn and experience many things about ancient times.
The construction of the bridge was initiated by a local entrepreneur. According to him, he wanted the bridge to serve as a road for the youth to get back to their roots.

According to the estimations of the local people the bridge can “hold” 700 people at the same time. To be frank enough, I myself would be scared to death to step on the bridge; while Khndzoresk residents do not even doubt the durability of the construction. The bridge runs over a deep canyon which is amazingly beautiful with its rock formations and caves. Until the 1950s people used to live there.
