  • Day 1: Day 1: Rongai Gate to Rongai Cave

    Stop At: Marangu, Marangu, Kilimanjaro Region
    Elevation (ft): 6,398 ft to 9,300 ft
    Distance: 7 km
    Hiking Time: 3-4 hours
    Habitat: Rain Forest

    After stopping at the Marangu Gate for permits, we proceed to the wooden village of Nale Moru, where the trailhead begins. The trail winds through corn and potato fields and then climbs gently through the forest which is home to a variety of wildlife, including the Black and White Colobus Monkey. We camp at Rongai Cave.

    Day 2: Day 2: Rongai Cave to 2nd Cave to Kikelewa Cave

    Stop At: Kikelelwa, Tanzania
    Elevation (ft): 9,300 ft to 11,811 ft
    Distance: 12 km
    Hiking Time: 6-8 hours
    Habitat: Health

    After breakfast, we begin the morning hike with a steady incline and reach 2nd Cave while en-route to Kikelewa Cave. Views of Kibo and the Eastern ice fields on the crater rim begin to emerge.

    Day 3: Day 3: Kikelewa Cave to Mawenzi Tarn

    Stop At: Mawenzi Peak, Tanzania
    Elevation (ft): 11,811 ft to 14,160 ft
    Distance: 5 km
    Hiking Time: 3-4 hours
    Habitat: Alpine Desert

    The hike today is short and steep, up a grassy slope. Views of the wilderness area are stunning. As we exit the heath zone and emerge into the alpine desert zone, the landscape changes dramatically. The camp is situated beneath the jagged spires of Mawenzi. The remainder of the day can be spent relaxing or exploring the area.

    Day 4: Day 4: Mawenzi Tarn to Mawenzi Ridge to Mawenzi Tarn

    Stop At: Mawenzi Tarn - Horombo Evacuation Route, Mawenzi Tarn - Horombo Evacuation Rte, Tanzania
    Elevation (ft): 14,160 ft to14,400 ft to 14,160 ft
    Distance: 4 km
    Hiking Time: 2-4 hours
    Habitat: Alpine Desert

    This is an acclimatization day. We hike steadily up a ridge with fantastic views on both sides; the landscape is rugged and rocky. After spending a few moments exploring Mawenzi Ridge, we head back to Mawenzi Tarn for camp. Extra days on the trail give our bodies the opportunity to acclimatize and assist with summit day.

    Day 5: DAY 5: Marwenzi Tarn to Kibo Hut

    Stop At: Kibos, Kibos, Nyanza Province
    Elevation (ft): 14,160 ft to 15,430 ft
    Distance: 8 km
    Hiking Time: 5-6 hours
    Habitat: Alpine Desert

    The trail climbs gradually across the rocky lunar landscape as we traverse the “Saddle” between Mawenzi and Kibo Peaks. Our campsite for the night sits at the bottom of the Kibo crater wall. The remainder of the day is spent resting and preparing for the final ascent in the early morning.

    Day 6: Day 6: Kibo Hut to Uhuru Point to Horombo Hut

    Stop At: Gilman's Point, Tanzania
    Elevation (ft): 15,430 ft to 19,341 ft to 12,205 ft
    Distance: 22 km
    Hiking Time: 10-13 hours
    Habitat: Arctic

    We wake in the middle of the night and begin the final push to reach the Roof of Africa. The trail to Gilman’s Point is very steep and the ascent will be slow and steady. From Gilman’s, it is a traverse along the crater rim to Uhuru Peak. We stay at the summit for a short time, to take photos and enjoy the views, before retracing our steps to all the way back to Horombo Hut.

    Day 7: Day 7: Horombo Hut to Marangu Gate

    Stop At: Moshi, Moshi, Kilimanjaro Region
    Elevation (ft): 12,205 ft to 6,046 ft
    Distance: 20 km
    Hiking Time: 5-7 hours
    Habitat: Rain Forest

    A long trek is in store for today, however, it is mostly downhill. Once at the park headquarters at Marangu Gate we pick up our certificate that proves our achievement and catches our vehicle transfer to the hotel in Moshi.

    Our Kilimanjaro adventure starts the Moment you land at Kilimanjaro international Aiport, You will be met by our staff at the airport and transferred to Arusha in the peaceful surrounds of our comfortable pre and post trek accommodation moshi , from where there are great views of the mountain. You can relax by the pool before your briefing with the Guides, who will provide the essential information for your trek to the roof of Africa.Day 1 Rongai route 7 days – Rongai Gate (1950m) – Simba Camp (2600m).Hiking Time: 3 – 4 Hours.Distance: About 8 Km.Habitat: Montana forestPick up from your hotel drive for two hours and half to Marangu park gate for formalities registration after that transfer to the Rongai trailhead in about 3hours. Meet your guide and porters before you begin your hike from the Nale Moru village. The small winding path crosses maize fields before entering pine forest, and then climbs gently through a forest. The trail is not at all steep, but is rather a gentle hike through beautiful country. The first night’s camp is at Simba camp, at about 2,600 meters. There is a toilet and a wooden table with benches, but no hut. Water can be found just down the trail below samba camp.Day 2 Rongai route 7 days – Simba Camp –Second CaveHiking Time 2 – 3hoursHabitat: MoorlandLate Breakfast, enjoy the morning at Simba camp proceed with the hiking very slowly acclimatize your body until you reach Second cave (3450M ) for hot lunch. Afternoon relax at second cave with dinner and overnight.Day 3 Rongai route 7 days – Second Tarn Cave (2600m) – Kikelewa Cave (3600m).Hiking Time: 3 – 4 hours.Habitat: Moorlands.After breakfast then continues up towards Kibo, reaching Kikelwa Cave at about 3600 metres. The views start to open up and you begin to feel you’re on a really big mountain! Water is in the obvious stream below the cave, although you might have to wander downhill a way to find some. Overnight at 3rd Cave camp (Kikelewa Caves).Day 4 Rongai route 7 days – Kikelewa Cave (3600) – Mawenzi Tarn Camp (4330m).Hiking time: 3 – 4 hours.Habitat: Moorlands.A short but steep climb up grassy slopes offers superb views of this wilderness area. The vegetation zone ends shortly before you reach your next camp at Mawenzi Tarn spectacularly situated beneath the towering spires of Mawenzi. Spend the afternoon acclimatizing and exploring the area.Day 5 Rongai route 7 days – Mawenzi Tarn Camp (4330m) – Kibo Hut (4700m).Hiking Time: 4 – 5 hours.Habitat: Alpine desert.Continue ascending on the east side of Kibo crossing the saddle between Mawenzi and Kibo taking 4 to 5 hours to reach Kibo Hut. The remainder of the day is spent resting in preparation for the final ascent, which begins around midnight. Overnight at Kibo Camp.Day 6 Rongai route 7 days – Summit Attempt, Kibo Hut (4700m) – Uhuru Peak (5895m) – Horombo Hut (3720m).Hiking time: 8 hours to reach Uhuru6 hours to descend to Horombo.Distance: 6 km’s ascent – 21 km’s descent.Habitat: Stone scree and ice-capped summit.You will wake up around 23h30, and after some tea and biscuits you shuffle off into the night. This is where the going really gets tough. The first section of the trail consists of a rocky path to the Hans Meyer Cave (5150m), also a good resting spot. The path then zigzags up to Gillman’s point (5 681m), which is located on the crater rim. This section is very steep with a lot of stone scree, requiring a great physical and mental effort. Probably the most demanding section of the entire route. From Gillman’s Point you will normally encounter snow all the way up to Uhuru peak (5895m), the highest point in Africa. Total exhilaration and satisfaction – you madeit. Weather conditions on the summit will determine how long you can spend, taking photographs, before the 3-hour descent back to Kibo hut for a short rest ten after you descent to Horombo hut (3 hours) where you will overnight. The descent to Horombo hut will seem surprisingly fast compared to the ascent. The total time spent walking on this day is around almost 14 hours, . Later in the evening you enjoy your last dinner on the mountain and well-earned sleep.Day 7 Rongai route 7 days – Horombo Hut (3720m) – Marangu Gate (1980m).Hiking Time: 6 hours.Distance: About 27 Km.After breakfast you continue your descent (6 hours), passing the Mandara hut, down to the Marangu gate. At Marangu gate you sign your name and details in a register. This is also where successful climbers receive their summit certificates. Those climbers who reached Gillman’s Point (5685m) are issued with green certificates and those who reached Uhuru Peak (5895m) receive gold certificates. You now drive back to Moshi where your trekking tour ends with sweet memories.
