Te Wao Nui - The Living Realm at Auckland Zoo

Te Wao Nui – The Living Realm, is the dedicated “native” flora and fauna precinct at Auckland Zoo.

Comprising more than a fifth of the Zoo’s 17ha footprint, Te Wao Nui is made up of six zones that reflect the distinctly different landscapes of Aotearoa, and the relationship between land, animals and Maori.

Te Wao Nui is home to over 75 native animals, and over 100 native plant species, where manuhiri/visitors will immerse themselves in the conservation of these species through dynamic interactive experiences, specialist guided tours, Maori carvings and multi-media.  Manuhiri will have exciting opportunities to meet native species up close and personal.

Blessed by the local Iwi, Ngati Whatua o Orakei in 2012, Te Wao Nui has become a must see destination for all visitors to Tamaki Makaurau/Auckland.
