Valley Movie Tour

 

4 1/2  hours of sightseeing north of Wellington City to experience the region with many local movie filming sites included.

With our on-location movie clips and pictures, you will have a good understanding of what famous Lord of the Rings scenes were shot in this area.

We include:

  • Helms Deep
  • Minas Tirith
  • Isengard
  • Aragorn Washed Ashore
  • Rivendell.

Of course we also have lunch in Rivendell too!

 

We leave Wellington City and head north through the Hutt Valley.

As we travel, commentary is provided along with video clips and behind-the-scenes stories from the filming of Lord of the Rings.

Many stops are made where we go for walks to the filming locations.

Included are:

  • Helms Deep
  • Minas Tirith
  • Gardens of Isengard
  • Hinged Trees of Isengard
  • Aragorn Washed Ashore
  • Rivendell.

We have lunch at Rivendell, then there is time for a short bush walk before returning to the city.

Pickups are from 10am.

  • Day 1 : Valley Movie Tour
    Walk in the footsteps of the cast and crew of “The Lord of the Rings” and learn how Peter Jackson and his team had the vision and talent to create amazing sets around New Zealand. Your guide will pick you up at one of our designated spots in the city from 10am and head towards the natural beauty of the Hutt Valley. As we leave the city everyone will become acquainted with their fellow travellers. Behind-the-scenes stories and videos provided by your guide will keep you entertained. On location, our stories and picture folder will help bring those filming days to life while you also have the chance to explore. Learn what it was like for everyone involved in the filming of these classics! You will visit Dry Creek Quarry where the sets of Helms Deep and Minas Tirith were constructed. Continuing, we’ll go for a walk through Harcourt Park, used in the movies for scenes around Isengard including Gandalf and Saruman discussing the newly found ring and Saruman ordering the nearby trees to be pulled down! Then we head to the Hutt River to see where Aragorn was washed ashore after his battle with Sharku and the Warg riders. Your final destination will be Kaitoke Regional Park the home of the Elves of Rivendell in the movies. After a relaxing picnic lunch, we’ll enjoy Rivendell before crossing a swing bridge for a short nature walk. Find the 1,400 year-old native Rata tree. Take a picture of New Zealand’s symbol – the silver fern before we return to the city, arriving by 2:30pm. Please note: All original film sets have been removed.
