Attractions for Kids in Regional NSW

Keeping kids occupied can seem like a herculean task, but luckily for you, regional NSW offers lots of fun family things to do. Escape the city for themed adventure parks, game parks and wildlife centres that will keep the kids busy and happy for the whole day.

Adventure Parks

Some of the most fun you can have is when you’re amongst nature, so why not take the kids to a treetop adventure park?! This might sound dangerous, but not to worry, these adventure parks have specially designed harnesses to keep the kids safe as they climb trees and glide on zip-lines or flying foxes. The South Coast, Central Coast and North Coast all have treetop adventure parks.

After some fun at Illawarra Fly Treetop Adventures, south of Sydney, spend the afternoon on the toboggans and giant waterslides at Jamberoo Action Park. The nearby Illawarra Golf Complex and Crazy Putt in Windang has an 18-hole putt putt course just 25 minutes from Jamberoo.

Trampoline Arenas & Wildlife Parks

If indoor activities are more your thing, check out the massive trampolines, foam pits and skate ramps at Flip Out Trampoline Arena. These family-friendly centres can be found in various locations across NSW, including Dubbo, home to Taronga Western Plains Zoo, and Gosford, near the Australian Reptile Park and Australian Walkabout Wildlife Park. If you’re near Coffs Harbour, take the family to bounce on trampolines and then visit the popular Butterfly House.

Other Family-Friendly Activities

Older kids looking for a thrill will love go-karting at Go Karts Go in Newcastle. If you’re travelling on the South Coast there is the rollercoaster or magic carpet slide at Magic Mountain in Merimbula, where you can also take whale-watching cruises with Merimbula Marina - an incredible experience for the whole family.

Younger kids will get their kicks at Macadamia Castle in Ballina where they can cuddle nursery animals, play mini-golf and have a go on the miniature train ride.

When planning your holiday check out the events calendar for special exhibitions for kids at museums and galleries during school holidays that the whole family can enjoy. Accommodation options are available throughout NSW to suit a range of budgets.
