Darwin Recreation Lagoon

While this Recreation Lagoon is in the middle of Darwin, it’s probably the Top End’s safest waterhole. Mesh screens prevent marine stingers from entering the lagoon, palm-fringed pools are the setting for plenty of giggles at Darwin’s coolest waterfront attraction.

The swell here is gentle enough for littlies and big kids, and there’s no danger of being hit with a surfboard since they aren’t allowed. Lifeguards patrol the sidelines, and there are plenty of wading pools, fountains and kiosks to keep the whole family entertained.

Entry is free and the lagoon is open 7 days a week and is the perfect place to frolic under a fountain if you can’t reach swimming holes in the National Parks.
